Hey pals, I've just finished reading a heart-wrenching tale about B’onca, a young mom doing her best to care for her little one. Life's throwing punches left and right - her neighborhood's changing, rents are shooting up, and she's dealing with the loss of her baby's dad. Plus, she's caught in a custody battle with his family. With the risk of losing everything she holds dear, B’onca is forced to make some tough calls that could have serious consequences.
The author really nails how hard it can be to chase your dreams when you're stuck in poverty and life keeps knocking you down. Every move B’onca makes is all about survival - hers and her daughter's. The story had me on edge, wondering if things would get worse for our heroine.
I'm giving this book 4 stars because it was a bit slow off the mark, making it tough for me to get into. But once I did, it offered some real insight into social issues that often get brushed under the carpet.
