Review: Zora Books Her Happy Ever After by Taj McCoy

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

5 stars

Hey there, book lovers! Just finished reading this rom-com about Zora, a Black and Filipina bookstore owner in Washington, D.C., who's more into her books than the idea of love. But life has its own plans, right? Two guys walk into her life and shake things up a bit.

One is Lawrence Michaels, her all-time favorite author, who she’s always admired from afar. The other is Reid Hughes, Lawrence's best friend who didn't exactly make a good first impression at Zora’s store during Lawrence’s book event. I won't spill any beans, but let's say I had my doubts about Lawrence from the get-go.

This book is a real roller coaster ride of drama and sizzle - some of it great, some of it... well... let's say awkward! The contrast between these scenes really gives you an insight into who's the better man in this love triangle.

And it's not just about the main characters - even the side characters, like Zora's best friend and grandmother, are well-developed and have Zora’s back throughout the story. There are a few twists along the way, but rest assured, there's a satisfying ending waiting for you.

Big shout out to Hear Our Voices Tours and HTP Books for giving me an ARC copy of this book to review. Now over to you guys - what do you think? Who would you choose: your favorite author or his best friend? Let me know your thoughts!

Just a heads up, if you find yourself clicking on any of the links below, I'll get a small kickback from Amazon's Influencer program. It won't cost you an extra penny, but it's a cool way to show some love for what I'm doing here!
