Hey pals, I've just finished a heartwarming tale about family, friendship, and finding oneself. It's all about love that doesn't ask for anything in return and the power of forgiveness. Rhonda McKnight masterfully intertwines the lives of Casey and her great-grandma Odessa, blending modern vibes with deep-rooted family customs. I was so hooked that I devoured this book in just two days!
Our main character is Casey Black, a social media star with a huge following. She had big plans for her seventh wedding anniversary - a grand vow renewal ceremony. But things went haywire when her husband, Drew, dropped the divorce bomb on the day itself. Crushed and embarrassed, Casey went home and turned to her followers after downing some wine. The video got viral for all the wrong reasons, leading Casey to take refuge in South Carolina Lowcountry to reconnect with her estranged family.
She heads south in search of her father's kin after his death before she was born. Her mother hardly mentioned them, and she never thought of reaching out until now. She ends up at a 300-acre farm owned by Blacks, where she meets her grandma Ida Black who she never knew existed.
Casey soon becomes fond of Granna and, through her extended family, uncovers the history that was kept from her by not knowing her father's side of the family. She also learns that Nigel Evanston, who she met at a restaurant earlier, is actually their farm manager who lied about not knowing any Blacks to protect them.
The story takes some turns as Casey starts feeling at home until an unfortunate incident drives her back to New York from South Carolina. However, healing happens over time, and we see Casey and Nigel find their happily ever after.
This book is an absolute gem! It has drama, mystery, and, most importantly, it’s about self-discovery and belongingness. The characters are so well-written that Nigel might be my new favorite fictional crush! Can't recommend this book enough!
I got this book as part of Hear Our Voices Tours and Libro.fm's ALC program, but these thoughts are my own.
Also, a shoutout to Yinka Ladeinde for bringing Rhonda McKnight's novel alive through her narration! Listening to it after reading the paperback copy was such an immersive experience!

Just letting you know, if you happen to click on the links below, I receive a little backing from Amazon's Influencer program. It won't add a cent to your bill, but it's an awesome way to give me a high five for what I'm up to here!
Congratulations Rhonda!
