Review: Get Frosted by Amy Austin (Christmas Falls #3)

Updated: Nov 27, 2023

4 stars

Hey buddies! Just turned the last page of "Get Frosted" and it's brimming with all the heartwarming, small-town holiday spirit you'd expect.

Let me introduce you to Mik Gilmore, an ex-pro hockey player who has swapped his skates for slinging drinks at his family bar in Christmas Falls. He's a big softie with a love for Bigfoot and a serious crush on his town and family. But there's a fly in his beer - his brother’s best friend keeps popping up and stirring things up.

And then we have Rudy Snow, another hockey retiree and best mate of Mik’s brother Josh. He followed Josh back to Christmas Falls when they retired but didn't plan on sticking around. But two years later, after managing another local watering hole, he's ready for a change. He might seem grumpy but deep down, he's got a heart as pure as snow and has been secretly swooning over Mik for ages.

Initially, I thought this was going to be your typical frenemies-to-lovers tale but boy was I mistaken - turns out Mik saw them as rivals while Rudy was just yearning from the sidelines. Their relationship takes a turn when they take over coaching duties from Josh and start planning Mik’s grandma’s surprise party together. It shifts from playful competition to something more authentic and heartfelt.

Their romance is super cute and an absolute joy to read - they're just so good together plus it doesn't hurt that Josh is all for them being together because they're just so right for each other.

Shout out to Gay Book Promotions for the advance review copy - these are my genuine thoughts.
